Fresh & Clean

Compassionate support, at your own pace, without judgment

Fresh & Clean team discreetly preparing equipment for a hoarding cleanup intervention

Hoarding disorder is not a lack of cleanliness, it is an accumulation rooted in a story, an emotion, sometimes a pain that is not visible from the outside. We know that, and we approach every intervention without judgment, with all the patience it requires. The person affected is often present and attached to their belongings, so we move at their pace, one space at a time, never rushed. Our team arrives in discreet, unmarked vehicles to protect your privacy and that of your loved ones.

How we work

  • A calm initial assessment, with no pressure and no judgment
  • Sorting done together with the person affected, at their pace
  • Gradual removal of accumulated belongings, room by room
  • Full disinfection and deep cleaning once the space is cleared
  • Discreet team and vehicles, with no visible branding
  • Coordination available with family members or social services

Our approach, one space at a time

  1. 1A first call without judgment. We start with a calm phone conversation, no pressure. You can talk about the situation at your own pace, even if it's hard to put into words, we're there to listen before proposing anything.
  2. 2A visit or intervention shaped around your comfort. A member of our team comes to assess the space, or begins the work if the person affected feels ready. We move room by room, never rushed, and we stop if it becomes too much for the day.
  3. 3Follow up so the person feels supported. Once the intervention is done, we check in to make sure everything is going well and the space stays livable. We remain available if further support or a follow up visit is needed.

What affects the estimate

The estimate depends mostly on the extent of the accumulation and the time it takes to sort through each room respectfully. Access to the space also plays a role, a cluttered home with narrow passageways takes more care and time than an open space. The pace of the person affected directly shapes the length of the intervention, since we never move faster than they can handle. When family, a CLSC caseworker, or a landlord needs to be involved in coordinating the work, that can add steps, and in some cases a home insurance policy may also come into play, something we can look into together.

Who reaches out to us

It is often an adult child worried about a parent, a family member who no longer knows how to approach the situation, or a social worker supporting someone in need. Sometimes it is the person themselves who, feeling ready to take a step, decides to call us. Whoever reaches out first, the person affected stays at the center of every decision we make. And if the person affected isn't ready to accept help yet, we're also happy to simply answer a family member's questions, with no obligation to go further right away.

Frequently asked questions

Does the person affected have to agree before you step in?

Their cooperation is at the heart of our approach. We never show up to clear out a home against someone's will. We take the time to build trust and move forward with them, even if that means several visits before real work begins.

How do I even start this conversation with a parent or a loved one?

Start by talking to us on your own, without the person affected present, if that feels easier. We can guide you on the best way to bring it up with them, respecting their pace and their dignity. There is no right or wrong way to begin this process.

Can you work with a CLSC or a social worker already involved?

Yes, gladly. We can coordinate directly with the professional already involved to make sure our intervention fits the existing support plan and respects the pace of the person affected.

Does the person affected need to be present during the intervention?

Often yes, since most people are attached to their belongings and want a say in what stays. But if being present is too emotionally difficult, we can also arrange things differently, what matters most is that the person never feels rushed.

Will other people find out what's happening in my home?

No. Our vehicles are unmarked, and our team stays discreet at all times. What happens in your home stays between you and us, unless you choose to involve someone else.
